THE SHINY PAGES
My name is Mark McNeil and I’d like to welcome you to a little piece of the Internet I call The Shiny Pages. My goal is to offer background information on my musical, journalism and local history passions. In these pages you’ll find videos, photos, audio files, lyrics and stories behind various songs.  As well as being a longtime singer-songwriter, I am also a veteran journalist at The Hamilton Spectator. Over the past few years I’ve experimented with bringing songwriting and journalism together. I’ve produced several music videos for The Spec’s website and a special section that was built around my song Private Riley. You’ll find links to the section here and videos here. Hundreds of years ago, news was spread by wandering balladeers who travelled from town to town using songs as a medium to spread the news of the day. Using modern tools of multimedia, I think there is a way to reinvent the idea of the medieval troubadour.
